Anatomy of a moment

How a moment
writes itself.

With Unpaged Plus, Apple Intelligence can fill in a moment for you. Here is what happens when you tap Save Moment in a downloaded book. All of it runs on your iPhone. The audio and the words never leave it.

  1. 01Listen back

It hears what you just heard.

Unpaged takes the 75 seconds behind the playhead and 15 ahead. The moment is what you just heard, without spoiling what comes next.

  2. 02Transcribe

    The words, on device.

Apple’s speech model reads that stretch of the audio file directly, punctuation included. Recognition is required to happen on device, so nothing is uploaded.

  3. 03Name

A title from the turning point.

The on-device model writes a three-to-five word title around the event the passage turns on. Short fields come first, so a long passage can only ever trim the last one.

  4. 04Categories & mood

    Labels from a closed list.

Categories and mood aren’t free text. The model picks one to three of ten categories and one of eight moods, so every label is one you can filter by.

  5. 05Characters

    Who is in the scene.

Up to six names, speaking or mentioned. “His wife” becomes Mrs. Bennet because the passage makes it plain.

  6. 06Quote

A quote it cannot make up.

The quote has to be copied word for word. Unpaged then checks it against the transcript, ignoring case and punctuation. A near miss snaps to the real sentence, and an invented line is dropped.

  7. 07Note

Then a note, and it’s yours.

Two short sentences on what is happening and why it matters, written last. Edit anything before you save.

Pride and Prejudice · Chapter 1Saved at 01:40

Transcript

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighbourhood, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the surrounding families, that he is considered as the rightful property of some one or other of their daughters. “My dear Mr. Bennet,” said his lady to him one day, “have you heard that Netherfield Park is let at last?” Mr. Bennet replied that he had not. “But it is,” returned she; “for Mrs. Long has just been here, and she told me all about it.” Mr. Bennet made no answer. “Do you not want to know who has taken it?” cried his wife impatiently. “You want to tell me, and I have no objection to hearing it.” This was invitation enough.

Note

Mrs. Bennet rushes to share the news that Netherfield Park has a new tenant. Mr. Bennet’s dry replies set up the comedy of the marriage plot.

Smart naming needs Unpaged Plus, iOS 26 or later and Apple Intelligence. Without it, moments still save with the exact time, and you can name them yourself.
